After waking up one morning, Gregor Samsa was no longer in the human state that he’d grown accustomed to over the years. Instead, Gregor had been transformed into a grotesque beetle that frightens anyone who dared to lies upon him. No one can be certain as to why Gregor underwent his metamorphosis, but it was probably in an attempt to reach self-actualization. Disgusted by his appearance, his family soon alienated Gregor from themselves and the rest of the world. Despite his appearance, Gregor’s family still loved him and his sister, Grege, felt compelled to care for him, as he did for her. His family would have to learn to either accept him as he is, or get rid of him. It is not clear as to why Gregor Samsa had been turned into a repulsive vermin in the first place, but his metamorphosis was probably the result of his quest for self-actualization.
