World War II If I can change any event in history it will be world war II because in some way it was the most tragically for me. It all culminated on Sunday, December 7, 1941 with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The attack was so cruel in the fact that it was a Sunday, a "Holy" day, and there were no true warning signs. The United States then reacted by joining the Allied effort against the Axis powers. After Germany and Italy were defeated, only Japan stood standing. When the Japanese refused to surrender, The United States was not left with many options. They could continue to send men and machines to fight and die, or end the war quickly.
