Christopher Wynne Nevinson art piece
Bursting Shell 1915
Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson grew up in London; at nineteen he studied painting at St. John’s Wood, London. His later years were spent at Slade school of art (1909-12). His paintings were recognised as his own personal feelings. He confirmed himself that he saw the Great War as a tragic event. In most of his paintings he prophesises great or dramatic events i.e. World War One.
‘Bursting Shell’ is one of his best apocalyptic paintings. It was painted with oil on canvas paper.
