Nirvana-Annotated Bibliography
Azerrad, Michael. Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana. New York: Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group, 1994.
This book is ideal for any Nirvana fan. It follows the group from the beginning until a year before the tragic death of a Kurt Cobaine. Later, a final chapter was added to include the last year culminating to Cobaine’s death. What sets this book apart from typical Nirvana books is the fact that it was written before Cobaine committed suicide. Thus, this eliminates any of the “lets feel sorry about Cobaine” attitude, and focuses on their actual careers as musicians and the music they made. Azerrad analyzes every song on the group’s three major albums, and provides insight into everything by sharing exclusive interviews with members of the band Cobaine, Chris Novoselic, and Dave Grohl. In addition, there are interviews with family, friends, relatives, former bandmates and associates of the group. The book not only perfectly tells the story of Nirvana, but also includes a complete discography, and over one hundred rare photographs, posters and original lyric sheets.
