Although there wern't any Vanitas paintings i found some pieces of art which i thought related well to the theme of death. For example, a piece of work called Lionheart seemed appropriate to mention in my unit 6 work. I particularly liked the way the artist used symbolism strongly in his work to get his point across to the viewer. Another piece of work i found influenced me was one which contained text rather than objects. The words used enabled the artist to show the viewer what she was passionate about. I also liked the way she used certain words to relate to her subject.
The main pieces of art that are of most importance to my own creative development in this unit are the Vanitas paintings of the 17th Century. I liked these because of the ways in which the artists have laid out their objects. On first glance it seems as though there is no order to the placing of the objects. However, once studied in detail it can been seen that there has been much thought put into where each object should go. Also, it seems as though the paintings contain random items from everyday life, but when the meaning behind each item is known then it seems obvious why the artists has used them.
