Nationalism and Resistance of the Viet Minh and Ho Chi Minh
Through the bitter hardships endured by the Vietnamese due to French colonialism, one could not foresee the development of Vietnamese nationalism and resistance. However, this became a reality because of Ho Chi Minh and The Viet Minh¡¯s nationalistic ways and determination to overthrow the French and gain Vietnam¡¯s independence.
At the end of the Second World War, France lied in ruins and Vietnam was left with no governmental occupation after the surrender of the Japanese. This was known as the August revolution and can also be seen as the turning point for Ho and the Viet Minh as they filled the ¡®power vacuum¡¯ and declared Vietnam independent which gave Ho the opportunity to gain support from the peasants. Although the Viet Minh were crushed in the south and an unhappy compromise lashed out at them, this did not stop Ho and his party from gaining the hearts and minds of the peasants, which he would use to help build up the Viet Minh.
It would take another nine years until Vietnam would be independent. During this time Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh would play a vital role in the development of Vietnamese nationalism and resistance. Ho Chi Minh developed the ideologies that promoted Nationalism and would lead to V
