The Greatest Person of this Century
I believe Mao Zedong (1893-1976) is the greatest person in this century.
Mao was the scholarly son of a peasant. He served briefly in the 1911-1912 revolution against the Manchu government. He became a full-time party worker of the party formed by the alliance between the Communist Party and the Kuomintang in 1923. When the Kuomintang forces tried to suppress a peasant uprising, Mao led the villagers to safety in the mountains.
In 1931, Mao became the chairman of the new Chinese Soviet Republic. He was ruthless, discussing guerilla tactics with a former warlord to destroy the Kuomintang forces. They were destroyed piecemeal by the Red Army and the peasant militia.
