The Ultimate Sport
Splash, kerchunk; splash, kerchunk; splash, kerchunk. The spatter of the oars and the sound of the oarlocks clanging together in a rhythmic beat echo across the pond. The grunts and murmurs of the early-rising team break the calm of the morning air. The boat smoothly scribes a thin streak across the pond’s glass-like surface. Then the coxswain screams at the top of his lungs to have them row faster, harder, and longer. Heart rates increase, sweat pours and endorphins rush through their bodies as they paddle down the pond. The shear intensity of crew makes it one of the best sports to get involved with.
Crew’s intensity forces you to be in accord with your teammates and operate as one. You not only work with the team but you drive each other to go further. Being in the same boat, the team expects you to pull your own weight, literally and figuratively. If one person is not rowing with all their power the boat will rock or stray from course.
