Witness

    The opening scene of the film Witness establishes many features of the film. These features include the camera shots, camera angles, light, sound, and dialogue, positioning of characters and Setting. The opening scene is significant as it shows the close relationship between the Amish people. Witness shows us the aspect of what would be normal to us in view of another culture. The Amish people differ from our culture dramatically as they are virtually fundamentalists and live very simply and do not have any material goods as we do. The Amish people reject modern conveniences such as cars, electricity and the telephone and they also dress very simple. Culture is also evident as the language represents a religious tradition. While the priest is saying his speech at Jacob’s funeral, the camera is above the priest and looking down on him and the people in the church.
