Philosophy Of Leisure
My Philosophy of Leisure
In the North Carolina Mountains there many different outdoor activities to take part in. For example, my family and I went camping outside of Ashville at a campground called Hot Springs. The campground sits next to the French Broad River. One feature the campground had was natural hot springs bubbling up from the ground like a relaxing Jacuzzi. We had the entire weekend planned of relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with the family. During the course of the weekend we went fishing, white water rafting, watched the fireworks display on Labor Day, and hiked the Appalachian Trail. The entire weekend was filled with play, leisure, and recreation.
Leisure is a term that could have a different meaning for every individual. The general definition of leisure is the portion of an individual’s time that is not directly devoted to work or work-connected responsibilities or to other obligated forms of maintenance or self-care (Kraus 2001). The English word leisure is derived from the latin word licere, meaning “to be permitted” or “to be free.” The early Greek word scole or skole meant leisure, which led to the English word school or scholar (Kraus 2001). The meaning of leisure has changed through time
