Negro Heaven

    The 1920s were a period in United States history in which lots of chances and risks were taken, from the world of fashion, to politics everything was wild. It was a time when flappers created their rebellious outfits to go along with their ideas, when the prohibition brought about speakeasy bars, the Sacco and Vanzetti case shook the nation, and the stock market crashed. As all this was going on, so was the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance was a period in time that the literary vigor and creativity of African-Americans were finally recognized. It blossomed after World War I, thrived during the time of the prohibition, and collapsed along with the economy when the depression arrived. The movement grew out of an area in New York city , called Harlem, that was populated mainly with African Americans, and several of their institutions as well, such as churches, social clubs, and lodges. But it affected the whole United States. It transformed the African American identity, in addition to broadening American culture, and did so through the peaceful language that everyone can understand, and relate to, art.
