Cynthia Smith Stibolt’s work explores spiritual iconography in a very spontaneous intuitive way. Automatism and ancient geometry are important elements in her work, creating a feeling of mystical, uplifting insurance. As I deal with the death of a vibrant young man I am drawn to this work. I feel the need to explore the idea of identity and what happens to ones identity in death.
Stibolt is a mystic. Her works are spiritually linked to some of the world’s major religions. Her works are floating calligraphic figures inspired by ancient cave paintings and tribal societies.
