Interview
A Story of My Friend
Elsa is twenty-four years old, and she is an Indonesian. I met her in my Speech class. She is very talkative, and she talks often. That made me want to interview her. Elsa came to the United States with her family twelve years ago. At that time she was only six. Interesting enough Elsa is the only child in the family; therefore, she is dependent on her family. One particular thing I admire about her is that she can speak three different languages. Since she grew up in Indonesia, she is knowledgeable in Javanse, and she is also able to speak English and little bit of Chinese. However, Elsa no longer practices Chinese because she needs to adapt to her new environment, America, by learning English. Most of the time Elsa forces herself to speak English and ignore the other languages, even her primary language. I found Elsa a very special person, and a very strong person from the interview.
Besides finding about Elsa’s talent in languages, I was also interested about Elsa’s adopted to the United States. Expectedly, Elsa told me that she was adopted from her white parents to come to United States for a better living. In Indonesia, people could not find a good paying job and living was harsh.
