Digital Divide
Technological advances abound as we move into a new age of computer innovation. Some individuals rely on new forms of technology such as cellular phones, Palm Pilots, and the Internet, while others remain dependent on out of date materials. Therefore, there is a division in society marked by those who have and those who lack access to technology, but this Digital Divide can be rememdied.
The Costs of New Technology
Cellular phones are among the most common type of new technology, but not everyone can afford them. The owner of a cellular phone must pay for both incoming and outgoing calls, with calls outside one's "home area" costing more due to roaming charges. Some plans can be as inexpensive as $20, whereas others can cost over $100. (See cellular phone costs).
