Around 1831 he was a naturalist aboard the H.M.S Beagle and took a voyage that lasted from December 27, 1831 to October 2, 1836. He found different things in the many areas that he visited. On the Galapagos Islands he discovered that many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those in South America, where he found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species.
