Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was a noted English literary figure who wrote during the Romantic period in the early 1800's. She wrote many novels, but her most recognized is Frankenstein, which tells the story of a man who creates a monster, but is destroyed in the end. Her parents were both well-known authors; her father published books on philosophy while her mother was a leading feminist writer. Mary Godwin’s (Shelley’s mother) most famous work was A Vindication of the Rights of Women, which was published in 1792.
