Cheetahs
This essay is about the endangered species, cheetahs, the fastest animals on land.
The word ‘cheetah’ comes from the Hindu meaning ‘spotted one’. Cheetahs are very distinctive types of species with spots over most of their body of different sizes, stripes on the tip of its tail and what looks like tear tracks starting from the corner of its eyes. Cheetahs are truly unique animals with long, thin legs, a delicate skull and a slight build.
Cheetahs enjoy eating a great variety of small animals. Some of these animals include gazelles, impalas, hares, wild beast calves and other hoofed mammals up to 40 kg. Cheetahs often hunt late in the morning and early in the evening. In order to get hold of their prey they must have their prey within 30 meters before chasing it down. An average chase is 170 meters and lasts for 20 seconds. Its speed is capable of 110 km per hour, but only for a short distance
