Baroque & Enlightenment Music Baroque music was written from the year 1600-1750 and was similar to pre-era music in the way that musical emotion was tailored to give worship more magnetism. However, Baroque music was different in many ways because although the music was customized for churches, certain instruments and voices depending on there sound were objectives when the composers wrote the music. In this era, instrumental technology developed and instruments were improved to have equal temperament, to play any key and a new key order system, which resulted in the compositions of keyboard music. The viol, which was the primary string instrument before this era was replaced with the violin, which was further modified to be used as a solo instrument. The lead composer of the Baroque era was Johann Sebastian Bach. He absorbed every advance in the musical instrument development and as a result composed some of the most famous pieces in musical history today.
