Baseball and its Effect on Soc

    Baseball is one of the oldest and most popular spectator sports. The “Game”, as it is known as today, developed during the 1800’s. Since then children and ameratures play the sport of baseball that attracts millions to the ball park every year and entertains millions more through radio and television broadcasts. Baseball is labeled, as being “America’s Pastime” and is significant of its social impact and influence on American Culture. The first organized baseball club was formed in 1842 by a group of young men in New York City; this group was led by Alexander Cartwright. They called their club The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club. The Knickerbockers developed a set of twenty rules, first published in 1845, that became the foundation of modern baseball. The knickerbocker rules called for nine player teams and defined a playing field with a home plate and three additional bases set apart a specific distance.
