Thomas Wolfe
In the short story by Thomas Wolfe, there is a sense of prejudice from a long time ago. The story shows the actions and the way black people were treated and how they acted towards that treatment. In the short story “Child by Tiger,” there are many different treatments of racial differences such as the treatment of the children, the car wreck, and the actions of the “mob.”
First of all, the treatment of the children was the same as the adults. Norman Floyd, of the Oklahoma Press, said, “One of his chief attributes is the respect and humility of the southern darky- he calls even the boys ‘mister’.” Dick Prosser made the boys feel important by calling them “mister” or “sir” or in Randy Shepperton’s case, “Cap’n.” Dick treated everyone with equal respect and courtesy.
