Cleverly following the title of the article, Gould presents the theories of Colbert, Cowles and Bogert, which is based on testicular failure of male dinosaurs due to global warming (sex), Ronald K. Siegel, who presumed that massive overdosing due to poisonous flowering plants (drugs) may have caused the extinction of the dinosaur and finally, the theory of Luis and Walter Alvarez which is focused on the possibility of a huge asteroid striking earth and causing the dinosaurs, as well as other species, to become extinct.
Gould states that the theory of testicular failure has little merit because scientists would need information from the remains of dinosaurs that fossils simply cannot provide. Also, as Gould points out, this theory does not take into account the extinction of several species of marine life in the same time period.

Finally, Gould presents the Alvarez theory of an asteroid striking Earth with such force as to create a gigantic cloud of dust, which blocked out the sun causing the temperatures to plummet and most of the plants to die. This in turn caused the dinosaurs to freeze andor starve to death. According to Gould, this theory has merit because geologists found deposits of iridium, a substance that is not native to Earth, which had to have been embedded in the Earth around the same time as the dinosaurs became extinct suggesting that something from outer space played a role in the disaster. It stands to reason that an impact of that magnitude could also account for the extinction of several species of marine life around the same time period as well. He points out that this theory is "good" science because it can be tested and has inspired research to either further prove or disprove it.
