One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Summary This movie is about a man, R.P. McMurphy, who pretends to be mentally ill to escape a work-detail program he was participating in as part of a prison sentence. R.P. enters the hospital a perfectly normal, sarcastic jerk of a man. By the end of the movie, however, R.P. becomes exactly what he never wanted to become: a vegetable. The movie begins with R.P.’s meeting with the head of the institution. He gives him a trial time, and tells him that if he is in fact ill, that they will keep him for further assessment.
