Philosophy of Religion
Everyone is searching for the meaning of life, the greater picture, their destiny, but many have no idea of where to begin. So, many seek out a religion. Religion helps people find their goal for life through a structured environment. When you examine each religion and its goal for life it seems as if each religion has something different to say. In reality each religious goal is the same, the steps to reach the goal are just carried out differently. The common theme is that one should live a good life and eventually die and end up in a peaceful place. My life would be different as a Buddhist for a number of different reasons. I have chosen Buddhism because Buddhism believes in achieving peace and happiness. In addition, I chose the religion because it teaches that salvation lies in your own hands and that you are solely responsible for what you do and the consequences that you will face. Finally, Buddhism will help me find a religious path to follow and help me understand what religion is truly about. The teaching of Buddha is that life is suffering and the cause of suffering is desire and the way to end suffering is to overcome the desire.
