Trench coats and drama. Foggy airports and romance. When first thought of, many people might not acknowledge the powerful underlying themes of this early forties, WWII black and white movie, Casablanca. Although it may be famous for it's one-liners, ("here's looking at you kid") and Humphrey Bogart's cock-eyed looks, this movie has far more to offer in the way of insights and thematic elements such as good vs. evil and self sacrifice.
In Casablanca, good is represented most naturally in the hero and heroine of the story, Rick and Ilsa, as well as more minor characters such as Sam, and Ilsa's husband, Victor Laszlo. And Evil is most assumedly presented at first as taking form in the Germans/Nazis, with Major Strasser as the figurehead, and the Vichy French. The fight of good against evil is displayed in a perhaps less traditional form, in stead of the good guys winning it all, and the bad guys just plain
