    Immigrants of different ethnicities founded the United States. Race as defined by Richard T. Schaefer is the groups set apart from society due to the obvious physical differences, distinct cultural patterns and their varying nations of origin. Race in the United States is the development of classifying people into specific categorizes based on social norms. In doing this, in the United States, the Caucasian race is seen as superior than all other races due to the color of ones skin. Anyone of a different race than Caucasian is seen as an inferior race based upon these social classification formed by social norms. Since the beginning of the United States settlement it’s own citizens have been discriminated against, segregated, enslaved and even murdered due to the fact that they are of a different race, ethnicity, religion, or gender as the common superior race, which is the Caucasian, Protestant, middle aged male of the middle to upper class. In today’s society, the life of someone who is a minority has become a little easier, due to the immense struggle that their ancestors of this country endured, in order to create a better future for their future race.
