He fought hard for the union, but also considered the south and the troubles they were going through. On January 1, 1865 he issued one of the most important documents in American history, the Emancipation Proclamation. This document had a huge impact on America, and was the begging of freedom for slaves. It also helped the union to win, and end the civil war.

The Emancipation Proclamation didn't free all slaves, but it sure was a huge step for African American life. The document forever freed those slaves
