Prokofiev’s Lieuntenant Kije- Symphonic Suite, Op. 60 & Wagner’s Der fliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman)
On Thursday, November 29, 2001 The University of Florida Symphony Orchestra held an excellent concert for the students of Introduction to Music Literature. The students seem to enjoy the performance by The University of Florida Symphony Orchestra. They invigorated the student audience with their masterful performance of pieces from composers such as Richard Wagner, Sergei Prokofiev, and Antonin Dvorak. The concert consisted of pieces from mostly the Contemporary Period. The music works that were preformed at the concert by The University of Florida Symphony Orchestra included Prokofiev’s Lieuntenant Kije- Symphonic Suite, Op. 60. They also played Wagner’s Der fliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman). I loved that they preformed many different pieces instead of a select few. This helped mix up the flow of the concert. I was very impressed by the performance by The University of Florida Symphony Orchestra because they played at the caliber of professional musicians.
