FLIGHT SIMULATORS AND THEIR USE AT UNIT LEVEL
INTRODUCTION
1. In aviation as in any dynamic environment many skills can effectively be taught and practiced in a simulated environment. Simulation may be considered advantageous through its ability to provide effective training in a more controlled environment than the real world. Additionally simulation is generally more cost effective and often less dangerous than the real situation it models. For military forces, life in combat can depend on the quality of training; often simulation affords the only practical method of combat experience.
2. This essay will look at the use of simulation at unit level in the aviation environment. It will discuss the benefits in experience provided to squadron members, as well as looking at the economic advantages afforded by the use of simulators, and finally it will discuss simulation disadvantages.
