new age movement
The guru’s purpose is to help their followers find the shortest path to salvation. Followers love their gurus and think they can do no wrong. Rajneesh is worshiped like a god. His followers do whatever he tells them to do. Gurus like Rajneesh are said to be “self-proclaimed” gods. The followers of these gods literally worship the ground they walk on. People leave everything behind to come and become completely devoted to their god. “Guru is God”, is what the followers say. He feeds the people’s emotions to help his ego. There are many similarities between this relationship and Jonestown. The people believed Jim Jones was god and their relationship was based on love.
Hundreds of “self-proclaimed” god-men have invaded the west. Guru’s go west to convert people and because they believe they have something to offer these people.
