But I don’t want comfort. I want god, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I WANT SIN.
All right, then, I’m claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have syphilis and cancer; the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what might happen to-morrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.I CLAIM THEM ALL.
This excerpt from John Savage is a reaction to Mustapha Monds statement of “we prefer to do things comfortably.” Which underscores the ideology of BNW, everything and everyone has to be emotionally disengaged. Because after all “A gramme is better than a Dam.” People of BNW aren’t allowed to feel unhappy or angry and in the super controlled and ultra stable environment that is BNW every emotion other than contentment or happiness is a threat to society’s stability.
It is my view that John savage would be a great character to play in the film as he offers so much authentic emotion and action as opposed to the rest of the emotionally retarded BNW.
