Essay on Vlad Tepes

    The Real Dracula, Vlad the Impaler Bram Stoker wrote 'Dracula' in 1897, one of the most well known books in the world. Nevertheless, before this famous novel was written, 100's of years before it, vampires were strong legends all over the world. The idea of drinking peoples blood meant immortality was an old idea derived from Cannibalism; the thought of putting someone else’s blood into one's own. Of course, there are certain animals such as blood sucking bats and leeches that actually survive on fresh blood. While the vampire that can't go out in sunlight and can transform into a bat is entirely fictitious, Dracula was very much real and was as barbaric as the character in Bram Stokers book, if not more so. Vlad Tepes III, otherwise known as 'Vlad the impaler' was Bram Stokers inspiration for Dracula. He was a Romanian prince born in 1428 and lived in the castle of Bran in Transyvlania. He grew into a remorseless evil man due to his father Vlad Dracul. ‘Dracul’ translated in Romanian means 'Dragon' and 'Devil'. In Transylvania, dragon represented horrific demons.
