The life and times of William Golding
William Golding was born in the village of St. Columb Minor on 19 September 1911. His father was a schoolmaster and his mother was a suffragette. He is considered to be one of the most important writers of the 20th century. He is famous for writing a book called “Lord of the Flies”. When he was in high school, 18 years old, he wrote a collection of poems called “Poems”. He was educated at Marlborough Grammar school and at Brasenose College in Oxford.
