The world fair though had the impact of the U.S. citizens that the government needed to achieve. By convincing the general public that becoming a colonial power was of great importance to the world"tms society and to benefit of the western civilisation, the government did get the financial and sincere support they needed from their citizen in order to compete with other nations such as Spain or Great Britain. The U.S. was considered to be an imperialistic power to which idealistic reasons, such as having an impact on nations through economic, religious and military actions and corrections, were justified through Darwinism.
