The Relevance of Erin Brockovich to Environmental Issues on
The Relevance Of This Film To Environmental Issues On The North Shore:
In watching the film ‘Erin Brockovich’, I learned the effects that air and water pollution can have on ones health. Many issues arose when the local citizens showed symptoms of nausea, nose bleeds, asthma, chronic bronchitis, miscarriages and worst of all, tumors. The local air and water pollutants caused all these symptoms from the Pacific Gas and Electricity Company of a Wychita County town known as Hinkley. Those living closest to the plant were affected the most as they showed the most severe symptoms. These were the ones that were bathing, consuming the water, eating the cultivated fruits and vegetables, and being exposed to the pollutants in the earth and air.
Due to this, many of the residents of Hinkley were exposed to chromium6 and other harmful chemicals-which caused many of them to develop tumors in different parts of their bodies. One of the residents of Hinkley got breast and uterus cancer and had to have them removed. Another had brain tumors and many others were unable to have children due to the substantial damage done to their reproductive organs. This is due to the way that they emitted the coolants from the coal-burning
