Gun Control
Issues Of Gun Control
The second amendment of the constitution states: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed upon (www.law.ucla.edu).” This is one of the main principles that our great country was found upon. However there are many people that want this right taken away from us. If the right to bear arms was removed from the constitution who’s to say someone will not try to take more rights away.
The author of the second amendment solely intended to grant states the right to maintain militias (Silver 1997). However there is argument over this statement. Many people say it does not guarantee citizens the right of private gun ownership. To figure out the true meaning of the second amendment you must analyze the word, militia. Militia refers to all citizens having the right to bear arms.” The militia” is identical to” The people”(Amar1991). If the constitution says all citizens are aloud to have a gun, so how could it be possible for this right to be removed?
Water is considered to be 19 times more dangerous to a child than a firearm. In 1996, 805 children died from accidental drowning and 42 died from firearm
