Rapture of canaan and memoirs of a geisha
I chose to read my second book, Rapture of Canaan, as I found my first one very thought provoking and wanted to read something very similar. The characters in both of these books experience events that I will never in my life experience, and I love to read about other cultures. Memoirs of a Geisha and Rapture of Canaan are both books that focus on one girl, and the way that she deals with her culture. The characters both experience traditions performed by their cultures, and share their most intimate feelings about everything that goes on in their lives. The areas I will be elaborating on are characterization, setting and issues.
Characterization is one topic that can be greatly compared. The two novels can be characterized as inciting in general. I’ve found that in both novels I haven’t been able to relate to the characters really, but have felt for them and their situations. In my first novel, the main character, Chiyo, was very passive and did what she was told, but opened up about her feelings towards them, and with such great detail I felt like I was there.
