Bono: Influential Rock Star
“ Some people think musicians should stick with the music. I cringe when I see a celebrity with a cause-and I am one,” Bono once said. (Harvey 12) Bono has evolved from the music industry into a high profile celebrity. He was propelled to a high status during the 80’s with his music and distinct sounding voice. Music has been known to make personal connections with people even emotionally. But what really drives the music itself, is the words that it is built upon. Words hidden songs can be remembered far longer than the life of an artist even. Lyrics stress the subtle and sometimes obvious meanings that a song is based upon. Through Bono’s recognition with song writing that strives for a better truth, he has made people more aware of political and social issues. Bono’s life began in Ireland where he joined the band U2. Their Irish background helped bring political issues to the surface through specific songs. The band achieved awards and recognition for both their music and actions.
