There are many controversial topics out there that many people believe strongly in. One of the topics stood out to me because it’s a fairly new concept and not much is known about it. This topic was chosen in hopes of learning about it. The controversial topic is the cloning of human beings. Some people think that just because humans are able to clone themselves, doesn’t me we should. While others believe that there are medical breakthroughs that can come from it, and the technology should be used.
The first step towards human cloning came in 1997 when a group of Scottish scientists made the first clone of an animal. Dolly, the name given to the cloned sheep, took 277 attempts to create. Along with a very low success rate of about three percent, it is very expensive to create a human clone. A Las Vegas couple planned to pay 500,000 dollars to clone their daughter who died at the age of ten months as a result of a medical accident. The couple had some cells from her body saved in the hope of producing an identical twin of her in the future. Although that is a large amount of money, there is always someone out there willing to pay it.
