Prison Writings

The farce of unbridled lies and flagrant coercion of witnesses played out there in a courtroom... This was the American judicial system at its very worst...1 Leonard Peltier was born an Indian, this is how it all started. Leonard did everything for his family, he even tried to siphon diesel fuel from an Army Reserve truck to heat his grandparents' home. Isn't that what any human being would do if they were in that situation? Nevertheless, this sent him to jail. Being an Native American at that time was very hard, yet, it should not be thought that way; they were the first people in America. Moreover the main event of Peltiers life goes like this: On June 26, 1975 FBI agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams, in unmarked cars, drive at a full-speed onto the Jumping Bull property, ostensibly chasing a red pick up truck in which they suspect a minor thief is riding. The FBI has never explained why it made such concerted effort to catch that thief-accused of stealing a pair of used cowboy boots- when it had failed to investigate the recent deaths of dozens of American Indian Movement supporters. A firefight erupts between the intruding unidentified agents and the American Indian Movement defenders. within minutes
