Women in Professional Golf
For about one hundred years the Professional Golfers Association has been holding golf tournaments for the best golfers in the world to showcase themselves. For about one hundred years now the PGA has been with one or two exceptions has ben strictly open to males, but all this changed on May 22, 2003 when Annika Soerstam arrived for the qualifying round of the Colonial Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. The PGA tour is a World Wide golfing organization founded by and for the best male golfers in the world, recently Annika Sorestam was awarded a sponsors exemption to play in the Colonial Invitational, allowing any woman in any male’s professional sport is wrong because males can not play in woman’s professional sports so they should play in the leagues designated for them.
For many years now the question of weather or not woman should be aloud to play in men’s professional sports has come up all of the country. When Bernard Chapin of the Men’s News Daily was asked this question he said, “We are conditioned in our society to accept discrimination against men yet to be outrages every time a woman or woman’s organization hears to word no.”(Bernard 1). To paraphrase what PGA tour member Vijah Sinhg said when asked to
