Grant and Jefferson is a hero

    Helping a person is easy, but being a person’s hero is not that easy. To most people, a hero is a person that helps and makes a difference in others’ life. To make a difference in a person life is very difficult to accomplish. There are those that have made a huge difference in a person’s life and are consider being heroes without even knowing he’s a hero. In the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines makes Grant, a character in the novel; give a definition of what is a hero in chapter 24. According to Grant, “ A hero is someone who does something for other people. He does something that other men don’t and can’t do. He is different from other men. He is above other men. No matter who those men are, the hero, no matter who he is, is above them… A hero does for others. He would do anything for people he loves, because he knows it would make their lives better.” Therefore, base on Grant’s definition of a hero, both Grant and Jefferson, is a hero in the novel. According to Grant’s definition of what a hero is, Jefferson could, in fact, be a hero to Miss Emma and Grant. He did something for Miss Emma and Grant that no one else on earth could ever do them.
