Macbeth the Weakling
Throughout the Play, Macbeth goes through several changes. He goes from being kind and caring to being ruthless and evil, from respecting life to murdering at every turn and from being a loyal soldier to being a ruthless tyrant king. Most of all, Macbeth goes from killing only with the encouragement of Lady Macbeth to killing with the assurance that he would be safe because of the witches’ prophecy.
Macbeth starts out as a loyal soldier to King Duncan. He doesn’t even think of betraying his friends. Then Macbeth learns of the witches’ prophecy: “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!/ All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter“(I.iii.48)! He becomes convinced of the truth of the prophecy when Ross and Angus appear and hail him Thane of Cawdor.
Macbeth hopes for another way to become king than to kill his friend Duncan. Then, Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth about the prophecy. She likes the idea of Macbeth being king and herself as queen. But, Lady Macbeth doesn’t believe that Macbeth can go through with Duncan’s mur
