Importance of Therapy

    Depression is a mental illness that affects your mood in a manner in which you feel sad or low over an extended period of time. Depression is very common; twenty percent of the population has been or will be diagnosed with depression sometime throughout their lives. Depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, medications are distributed to correct it, although no one is sure what causes the imbalance. Perhaps it is an emotional factor, which could be treated by therapy. Even though depression can be treated with psychological therapy and medication most people just choose the medication only. Prozac, the most notorious medication, was introduced in 1987. Prozac was nicknamed the ‘miracle cure’ due to its’ reputation of effortlessly making depression disappear. Taking one pill a day so you could enjoy life again seemed too good to be true. Very shortly after its’ debut Prozac had everyone in a frenzy. Many people assumed that they no longer needed to attend therapy, they had thought that this drug would remove, simply wipe away, all of their troubles.
