Egypt: Present Day Geography
Overview
In 430 BC, when Herodotus exclaimed in awe over the magnificent monuments in Egypt, many of them were already 2500 years old. (Carpenter, 12) The vast possibilities of the Ancient Egyptian culture that comes to anyone’s mind when thinking about Egypt. Whether it be mummies, the mystery of the pyramid, ancient curses, treasure, hidden tombs, etc. Egypt is one of the world’s most honored ancient civilizations, with its origin dating back 6,000 years. The sheer age of this great civilization is mind-blowing.
Location
Egypt is located in the northeast corner of Africa, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea on the north and the Red Sea forms most of the eastern boundary. Only three countries are on Egypt’s borders: Libya to the west, Sudan to the south, and Israel to the east. Egypt is similar to the land are of the U.S. state of New Mexico.
European Contact
Egypt first came into contact with Europe by the appearance of Napoleon Bonaparte. He found himself unsuccessful in Egypt afterwards and withdrew his forces. In 1882 Britain sent troops
