Flashes of Lightning
It all ended with a final shout as Laura and her two year old daughter left the house. Andy sat there in misery as he watched her go. This was the end of a six year marriage. Laura and her daughter Dana moved to New Jersey where Laura’s mother lived. This is where Dana would start a whole new life, a life of choices of who to be with, a life of traveling back and forth from New Jersey and Florida and Vice Versa, a life of flying, which she grew to hate.
Sixteen years have gone by of plane flights to the point that Continental airlines know her by her first name. Each plane flight seemed to build a concern which later developed into a fear of flying, a fear of anticipation for what was waiting on the other end, a disappointed mother or disappointed father on the other end because their daughter wasn’t with them all the time. For Dana, another concern grew in her mind each time she boarded the plane, the fear of being a child all alone on a 270 passenger aircraft 6-8 times a year, the fear of turbulence and strangers.
As time grew on, it was Dana’s decision to move to Florida to be with her Dad after her Mom decided to remarry. With honors, third in her class, and aspirations to go to medical school, she decided to a
