Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell is best known for his invention of the telephone. Young Alexander Graham Bell was named for his grandfather. He adopted his middle name from a friend of the family and he had two brothers. His family and close friends called him Graham. He was a talented musician. Many inventors had been working on the idea of sending human speech by wire, but Bell was the first to succeed.
The invention of the telephone grew out of improvements Bell had made to the telegraph. Bell's first telephone was granted on March 7, 1876.
