Deafening Silence

    As I started this book I was drawn into every bit of it and I did not want to put it down. The authors did an excellent job on writing this story. Though Thomas Spradley was merely a father trying to provide for his family as a mathematics teacher, James P. Spradley was a writer who wrote many books, and being Lynn’s uncle I think that they wrote this book to let people know how it was raising a daughter who was deaf. The authors gave a great perspective on how everyone dealt with this and affected by this form of a so-called disability. Some people treat it as a disability but to me it is not. Deafness is not a disability but a challenge given to people who merely accept it and go on with life. I believe that both these authors wrote this story to help the world understand the hearing impaired, which hopefully also gave an insight on how difficult it was raising a daughter who was deaf. This story gave a good example from the parent’s point of view. The sacrifices made by the family showed how determination for bliss can be achieved by hard work regardless of the obstacles that arise.
