The Sign of Modesty and faith
From head-to-toe, burqa to long cloak, khimar to jilbaab , chadors to silky-smooth hijab, each of these apparels are various forms of hijab . Hijab! What is it really? The word hijab (pronounced hee-jaab) is an Arabic word which literally means “to cover”, “to conceal”, or “a veil”. This simple cloth, covering a Muslim woman’s hair, is yet misunderstood by many. It is actually a command of God to the women of faith. God says is the Holy Quran: “Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands... (Quran 24:30-31).” These verses from the Quran contain two main orders: firstly, a woman should not show her beauty or adornments except what appears by uncontrolled factors such as the wind blowing her clothes, and secondly, the head covers should be drawn so
