Youth Violence A Growing Concern
Youth violence is one of the most mentioned and discussed problem in most city and schools around the country. This has received increased public attention since the rash of school shootings and violent acts that have occurred in recent years. It is a topic that is of great importance in class and course reading since school counselors should be well informed so that they will be prepared in dealing with these children involved in the violent acts. Violence among youth, especially in schools, is one of American society’s most pressing concerns. It is a source of controversy all over the country because there is no set reason blamed for this change in our youth. It is not a problem only seen in one or two states. Nims (2000), reports that in recent news states like Springfield, Oregon; West Paducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Edinboro, Pennsylvania; Pearl, Mississippi; Littleton, Colorado; and Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, have been continuously mentioned for common reasons.
