Johnny Allen Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. His father changed his name to James Marshall Hendrix, but his fans know him as Jimi Hendrix. He is arguably the most influential electric guitarist in the history of rock. He remarkably played a right handed guitar, and he is left handed. While still in school he expanded his experience by joining a couple local rhythm and blues bands. After school he enlisted as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. This is where he met Billy Cox. Billy Cox was a bass player, but also Jimi’s partner in a group they called the King Kasuals. Their group was originally an attraction only for the troops, but renewed when both men were civilians. Hendrix broke his ankle in 1962 which caused him to be discharged.
